ChaLEAN Extreme Review

 

I am a P90X and Asylum guy to the bone!  I love those intense workouts that push me to my limits everyday!  My wife, on the other hand, loves P90X but it can be a little to extreme for her to do everyday.  So we decided to find a more suitable fitness program to add to her routine that she could stick with long term.  We decided that ChaLEAN Extreme might just be the answer.

ChaLEAN Extreme has been described to me as “P90X for ladies”.  Although, I don’t think you’ll find Beachbody advertising it that way.  ChaLEAN Extreme is total body-sculpting program designed to help you lose weight and build lean muscle, reducing your body fat by up to 60% in just 90 days.  Similar to P90X, a combination of resistance training, extreme cardio, and targeted abdominal routines are included in the program.

I must say that I am very impressed with ChaLEAN Extreme so far!  Celebrity trainer and motivator Chalene Johnson guides you through the workouts.  The patented phrase “Muscle Burns Fat” is the premise to this routine.  You will focus mostly on building lean muscle, because that will raise your metabolism and you’ll burn more fat, even when you aren’t working out.  That’s a fact!

Chalene uses a Lean Phasing technique that encompasses 15 extreme workout programs broken down into 3 phases.

Phase 1 is the BURN phase where you start lifting weights to build strength, jump-start your metabolism, and break down fat reserves.

Phase 2 is the PUSH phase where you lift heavier weights that are normally outside your comfort zone to build muscles that will increase your fat burning.


Phase 3 is the LEAN phase where you will experience circuit-training workouts that increase the pace of your weight lifting routines, adding a cardio dimension to the routines.

Additionally, there is a high intensity cardio workouts (Burn Intervals & Burn it Off!), a recovery routine (Recharge), and two ab targeted routines (Ab Burner and Extreme Abs) that are rotated into the mix.

Whereas the P90X routines are typically 60 minutes long, 6 days per week, these workouts are only about 20-45 minutes long, 5 days per week.  That is a lot more sustainable long term for most people.  You can use resistance bands and Chalene has a great video that explains how to use the bands for each exercise.  The weights that you will use are in the 5-20lb range, and there are no pull-ups!  I know my wife appreciates that!

The packaging and resources that ChaLEAN Extreme comes with is also quite impressive!  You will get the following when your order the Base Kit:

  • You also get some basic equipment like a thigh toner band and a resistance band.  The Deluxe package comes with additional resistance bands, wrist weights, a stability ball, plus a few extra workouts.

Who is this program for?  Really it is for anyone who wants to lose weight, shed fat, gain muscle, get stronger, or just maintain what you already have.  Perhaps you guys want to get your wife or girlfriend involved in your workouts, but they are too intimidated by P90X or Asylum.  This may be the perfect program to introduce her to Beachbody.  And yes, guys can get a great workout with ChaLEAN Extreme also if you use the proper weights.

I was so impressed with this program that I decide to start a ChaLEAN Extreme Challenge Group just to see if I could get any interest.  Within 1 week had 13 ladies commit to the program!  It seems like a great fit for many people.

  4. Thanks for introducing me to this program! I think I’ll show this to my wife. She’s awfully concerned with how to lose here “baby weight.” She wants to try something that will work as well as P90X but isn’t so brutal.
